Don't be fooled by this unassuming, innocent looking Smeg fridge. On first impressions it looks like a regular fridge, probably full of cold meats, chilled beer, a homemade trifle and a half eaten piece of cheese. But this fridge is actually a secret portal to an underground drinking den. It leads to The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town. Walk this way...

For those in the know, you'll arrive at this buzzy Breakfast Club (which is also a brilliant place to hang out for all-day breakfast and brunching action), and you'll discreetly, I repeat discreetly, have a little word in the ear of one of the friendly waiters and let them know 'you're here to see the Mayor'. Make sure you behave in a relaxed, nonchalant manner so as not to rouse any suspicion, then hopefully you'll get the nod and quick as a flash the Smeg fridge door will open and you'll be hurried inside as the door shuts rapidly behind you.

At first you may be disappointed to realise you are not actually inside a fridge at all, but once you've accepted it's all a ruse, you follow the illuminated 'thrills' sign downstairs to a great little dimly-lit speakeasy bar. Find a seat at a wooden table, peruse the drinks menu and assess your surroundings. Candles in cat bowls, a strange 'Granmaster Flash' painting, a moose head on the wall and subtle feline-related objects dotted about. The loos are a throw-back to the 1980's with walls covered in old copies of Smash Hits - Ferris Bueller giving you a knowing grin whilst you pee!

Indulge in affordable cocktails, giant bottles of Cruz Campo beer, civilised glasses of plonk and a selection of simple, tasty bar snacks, relishing in the knowledge that nobody on the other side of the fridge door even knows you're there.

The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town is an obscure hideaway for unusual drinks with unusual friends and a perfect spot for a secret rendez-vous. I think it's pretty excellent and just hope it doesn't get too popular and lose it's mystery.
